CheonBok is the result of a frozen semen A.I. between HoSoon and a red male named DaeBak in South Korea. DaeBak is the sire of a white male that I had admired in Korean shows for at least a year, and DaeBak was unrelated to the Kkoma line that our foundation female, HoSu, is part of. DaeBak also has a branch of his pedigree that hails back to Mangang CheonPa, a male dog bred by the Jindo book author Mr. Yoon, Hei Bon.
CheonBok is a very bright dog who catches on the quickest among my Jindos to new thinking games. He is intense about doing Fast CATs, and before the coronavirus pandemic had shut things down, he was gaining speed with every run he completed. We dabbled in training for Scentwork via an online course, and he progressed more than the other Jindos in keeping to the task. During the coronavirus shut down, he completed the AKC Trick Dog Novice, Trick Dog Intermediate, and Trick Dog Advanced titles. His limits are determined by the skill of his trainer (me) and not by the lack of his aptitude.
Despite his high intelligence, CheonBok is also the type of dog that requires a very experienced and committed Jindo owner. He seems to have a long memory for things, which can either be beneficial or difficult to work with.
He is very bonded to his people, but he is not good with other dogs and is wary of strangers. He is food-motivated and communicates clearly, so it has not become a greater issue with preemptive action on my part, but it would be my preference to breed towards a dog requiring less management.
Because there is a chance that his wariness towards strangers is genetic and not due to a traumatic-to-him experience at 7 weeks of age, I will have to find a special female to offset this if I do decide to breed him. I would also like to see his pups placed in experienced homes familiar with canine behavior.
