Frequently asked questions
how often do you have puppies?
The frequency of having puppies have depended on several factors for us. We aim to produce healthy puppies for our owners, and we believe that due diligence is screening our breeding dogs for health concerns. In the U.S., that means waiting until the parents are of age for PennHip and OFA tests to be considered valid.
We aim to avoid problems associated with inbreeding while increasing the number of Jindos in the registered population. We utilize pedigrees to track lineages and apply breeding programs (ie. Coefficient of Inbreeding calculation) to assess risks. This means that even though we have several dogs for breeding, we would not breed them together if their numbers are not favorable.
We also do not proceed with a breeding until there are committed homes for at least 3 pups in the litter. We would prefer to have more though, as hard experience has taught us that people back out at the last minute. We would also prefer to have at least one home willing to co-own a puppy that could potentially be part of our breeding program.
As we build our breeding program with more eligible dogs, more potential matches, and a larger committed waiting list, the frequency of our litters would naturally increase.
Currently we have no plans for additional litters in 2024 as we are waiting for some young female dogs to become old enough for their health tests. The next litter is tentatively planned for the beginning half of 2025.

How much do you charge for a puppy?
The price for a puppy will depend on the parents involved and how I assess the quality of the pups after they are old enough, so it is difficult to post a set number. I have charged up to $1500 in the past, but starting with the Litter H, I will have a price increase to up to $2000.
I do not price more for "rare" colors. Since I am familiar with genetics, it is an easy thing to bring out certain colors that are toted as "rare", but I would rather focus on type, temperament, structure, and health. Indeed, without even trying, we produced a "rare" wolf-grey Jindo in our second litter, and of course, we have brindles in our first, third, and fourth litter.
I do not price more based on sex. If someone is interested in breeding a female pup from us, I would hope that they were upfront about their intentions so that I could select a quality female for them and that they could have access to my unrelated males and resources.
I will discount for a co-ownership arrangement if I offer it.

Do you ship (out of state)?
Since I follow U.S. APHIS regulations, puppy buyers will need to visit their pups before I can ship.
It has usually been the most convenient for the puppy buyers to fly in at 8+ weeks, see their pups, and fly home with their pups.
Shipping arrangements are done by the puppy buyers. Suggestions may be given by me, but it is ultimately the puppy buyers who decide which airline and what schedule. Most Jindo pups will not fit under the seat in the cabin.
Shipping costs are entirely on the puppy buyer. This means vet health certificates, crate purchase, and airline tickets are on the puppy buyers.

Do you Ship to Hawaii?
Shipping to Hawaii is a possibility if I feel the pup would be compatible with a late, long-distance placement.
Puppy must be paid in full at 8 weeks of age, and there will be an extra, non-refundable boarding fee charged for keeping the pup longer for Hawaii shipment.

do you ship internationally?
I would prefer to produce more generations domestically before shipping a dog internationally. My reasoning is that such a shipment would unavoidably be high profile, and I want to do my best to send a dog that represents my ideal before competing on an international stage.
I will send an early dog to friends, though, with the understanding that they are getting a work in progress.
